Together with Copenhagen-based design brand Niko June, we have recently completed the design of Café Niko, a café and shop located on “Papirøen” in Copenhagen. The space is left raw and unfinished, exposing concrete walls and technical installations, revealing structural elements that would normally be concealed in the finished design. This inherent temporality and unfinished quality defines the aesthetic foundation and conceptual starting point for the interior design. A tabula non rasa (non-blank slate) principle, adding instead of hiding, was applied to create an interior rich in detail yet open and versatile for future change. This approach informed the composition of the materials, systems, and interior elements used throughout.
